‘In search of self’
series
In this series I explored the ideologies of finding one's 'self' in an interpretive journey. The searcher embarks on a symbolic journey to arrange and connect their dreams to ambition, to reality. This project allowed me to explore the concept of the ever-changing backgrounds to our lives as the search commences, even if unknown to the searcher. By being a part of the photograph this series illustrates my journey of discovery and is foreshadowed by the humanism of what we all learn along the way.
This series was shot at night and used the available street lights at each location. The symbolism of night and its solitude framed the minimalistic style and covered up the distractions surrounding the photograph, and symbolically within our lives.
Experimenting with in-camera techniques and not photoshop trickery, allowed me to share in the image as well as taking the photograph itself. The human figure and concept of transparent movement within the image exposes the constant change in all our lives; the person wearing the hooded jumper is allowing the viewer to watch in on their experience(s) but holding back enough so as to not expose deeper secrets by revealing their face. This is evident by the transparent human figure passing through moments in life-altering decisions.
